Fish On, Redfish On...Redfish Fishing ON FIRE!

As Gary Clark reports below, Redfish fishing is definitely on fire in and around the Mississippi Delta region. Check out his report.

Gary Clark June 28, 2013

Well, saying that the redfish are on fire presently with Captain Keith Kennedy is putting it mildly.  Along with Jeff Stagg and David Fields, I just completed my latest trip to Born to Fish Charters in Venice, Louisiana, and the action was just incredible.  In three days, we boated 111 bull reds to 38 pounds (Jeff-pic) with several over 30 and most over 20 pounds.  The last day alone we caught 50, but that doesn't accurately describe the action we encountered.  Most were hammered the last 2 hours of the trip when the Captain decided to change locations and we found a wide open bite that brought vicious blast after blast one cast after another.  The bait of choice was no contest.  Far and away the best was El Grande Lures Boom-R-Ang in Foxy Fred color (see below).  It is a larger size fluke-type bait with a unique split tail and the redfish simply love it.  You can rig it on a jig head, with a weighted hook or a heavy single hook---doesn't really matter---just fish it!  We fished them under popping corks to attract even more attention.  This was simply my latest super trip with Captain Keith and I hope all my fishing friends get to experience this remarkable fishery as soon as possible.  Without question, Keith's complete 3-day package is the biggest bargain in all of sport fishing.   Go for it!
All the best.
Gary

Return to the Delta...Day 3 Report...Bull Red Fish, YES...Oil, NO!

Wednesday the 25 was an awesome day for Red Fish action, no question. Yesterday, Thursday 26th, was a so so day...we have those too. Rain was concentrated in the area of south pass and east bay all day, sometimes very heavy, with rolling seas at the beach of 2-4 feet and some areas more. We were able to pound out 20 Reds to 27#. Still not a bad day for roughly 3 hours actual fishing.

So figure three anglers had 138 Bull Reds to 36# over two and 1/2 days. Not bad. But we should well remember that this is within 50 miles of the worst oil spill on record, certainly on the Gulf Coast of the US. Let me point out, although the well bore appears to be plugged (sealed) there is still a monumental effort taking place to clean up the region. Workforce and support personal, remediation vessels, enforcement agencies and regulatory are everywhere...that's good. But even better...the oil and residual effects are certainly being remediated and all involved should be congratulated and thanked for their efforts and commitment.

I want to remind you of one last thing...the fishing is fantastic and the fish are as under pressured right now as ever. So if you're ready for some outstanding monster Bull Red action give me a call and let me set you up with Captain Keith Kennedy for a trip to the Delta!

Return to the Delta...Day 2 Report Red Hot Red Fish Action

Every so often you have "ONE OF THOSE DAYS"... know what I mean?

Everything lined up perfect today for just that kinda' day. Tides right, wind right, seas right. Mostly non stop action 8:30 am - 2:00 pm ...doubles and triples of "fish on" frequently. 83 Bull Reds up to Jeff' Staggs 36# Giant...4 over 30#...a bakers dozen over 25#. Several have emailed me and yes, I plan to have some video clips of some of the action. But I will have to get it edited first. So for now if you want to see some video of this kind off action slip on over to our Monster Bulls on the Beach video page.

Day 3 Report in about 24 hours. Stay tuned!

Back to Venice and the Delta to Test the Bull Reds

Back to Venice and the Delta next week to test the Bull Reds...I must admit, I'm a little apprehensive. What will I find the conditions like after the last 100 days? Captain Keith says, "the water in beautiful...the beaches are clean for the most part...the mullet busting and the birds are diving. Had a friend fish last Friday and Saturday...outside island of Blind Bay and did great on Monster Reds. He said they boated a number of fish 42'' long and had a number of bigger fish break off..." I can LIKE that! And if it all works out I'm confident I've got a wad of fishin' expeditions clients ready to head on down to Cajun Land for some Monster Red Fish action! I'll report from Captain Keith's Camp next week. South Pass...you're in my sights!
