Redfish Rumble Begins

The Redfish Rumble Begins in the Delta!
This fishing the Americas Report just in from
Captain Keith Kennedy.

Two day Fishing Report (July 17-18) from Venice, Louisiana. Ideal fishing conditions prevail with light winds with scattered showers. Overcast skies provided very comfortable fishing for mid July. The early morning bite was exceptional - basically on every cast. We fished under pelicans diving on bait fish. The Big Bull Redfish are moving in and setting up in their usual locations on 3 to 4 foot mud flats on the east side of the river. Due to high river flow this spring and early summer the Bull Redfish did not set up per their normal routine until early/mid July. Normally the Redfish would be setting up on the beaches and mud flats in early May and June. We experienced a number of very disappointing trips early spring and summer but things have turned around in a dramatic fashion in the past two weeks!  Bull Redfish should continue to flood onto the mud flats off of the Mississippi Delta for the remainder of the summer and into the fall. I expect exceptional catches from now through November. __Captain Keith

Welcome to Spybaiting: The Technique of Silent Capture

Realistically, Spybaiting a.k.a the technique of "Silent Capture" is still in its infancy.

Perhaps not so much within the green and brown bass communities, although there is still volumes to learn there as well, but certainly when considering other species. So for all you Spybaiting enthusiasts don't shout me down before you hear me out!

There are applications awaiting to be developed with the Silent Capture finesse technique in both freshwater and saltwater. Pioneers of this technique, like David Swendseid, are bringing to the forefront professional and engaging instruction via fast paced yet detailed and informative video presentations.

For we gray-tones and old school deep water hounds it is reminiscent of our days learning and then refining the technique of "Spoonplugging" with instructions from pioneers and legends like E. L. "Buck" Perry. Or, Carl Lowrance, who we remember in 1959 began full production of the first mass produced recreational fish finder...the Fish Lo-K-Tor or more commonly called, "The Little Green Box." That "little green box," as the Fish Lo-K-Tor became known, soon revolutionized sports fishing across all waters of the globe.

My point: "Pioneers" delivering technique and tool are always, on mission. So today we have a relatively new technique with new educators like Swendseid and new creators...artisans like Masahiro Adachi developing and perfecting tools like the Realis Spinbait 80 and 90 or the Realis Spinbait 80 G-Fix.

This grey-tone for one is just as excited today to learn the technique of Silent Capture as I was 50 years ago learning to understand the blips and blinks of stumps and contour changes on the dial on my first Lowrance.

Thanks Mr. Adachi - Thanks David, for bringing us Realis SpyBaiting, your way!

Now, absorb the video:  Welcome to Spybaiting: The Technique of Silent Capture

Time to Release the Beast with the Fangbait Series by Realis

Heavy Duty to the Max!

It seems that DUO International has decided that the secret is definitely out, at least in some countries and certainly since ICAST16 in July. So on August 12, 2016, quietly comes the news release from DUO International a host of watchful and extreme finatics have been waiting for:

"The Fang Ops series has started with the concept of making the toughest lures in the world while preserving the attention to details, artistry and craftsmanship which made Japanese product renown. The products have been carefully tested for over two years period in some of the toughest fisheries in the world – Papua New Guinea, Amazon, Guiana. Starting with the range of four Fangbaits, now, it`s time to release the beast!"

The heavy duty weapon for “Going Beast Mode”

What do you tie on your rod when you plan to target a 20kg Papuan bass, 40kg barramundi or 100kg arapaima? What tackle generates enough confidence to tie it on even when fighting a world class record fish? We offer you the answer – the Fangbait series.

You WILL want to read the entire News Release to see all the colors; learn about the design process and see the "interior" of Fangbait. The design, the colors and the interior make Fangbaits the perfect choice for tackling the Beasts of the Exotics in freshwater and saltwater with THE BEAST by Realis.!

Two years of extensive field testing in extreme conditions, for extreme finned beasts by extreme anglers across the planet brings Realis to the point of saying, "It's time to release the beast!" So I encourage you, if you are a Beast Hunter of the finned variety, if you have freshwater or saltwater Beasts on your bucket list, go to the DUO International web site  and search the ‘Fang Ops’ Fangbait series. You'll find just the right Fangbait for your quary.

Check the Fishing the Americas Blog often for suppliers here in the states where the Fangbaits will be available. We hope to have that information for you soon.

Hot Summer Reds . . . Redfish That Is!

The Outstanding Redfish Action Continues around the Delta!

What else can I say? But these last several reports so clearly describe the fishing in the Delta area this summer. Perhaps the best is the old school saying’, “When it’s Hot . . .  it’s Hot!” Whether it’s the weather or the Redfish bite . . . the time is right!

Mike Loyd, George Burns and friends fished with Captain Keith Kennedy, Born to Fish Charters last week and report they had another great trip with The Captain!

“David,
Wanted to share a few shots of the fish we caught the past three days with Captain Keith.  A great three days of fishing.  Between  two boats we averaged about 24 catches per boat per day with our largest Redfish being 32lbs.”  __Mike Loyd

Steve Oliver from Decatur, IL. Steve def got in on some Redfish Heat!

So here is a tidbit for those who can act Real Fast. The Captain had a cancellation and the last week (as of this moment) of August is available for an arrival on August 24 or 25. This won't last long. If you're ready for some "Redfish Heat", call the Captain . . . Real Fast!

Delta Redfish Action Continues

Excellent Delta Redfish Action Continues!

Just returned from another great trip to the Delta with angling friends Gary Clark and Jeff Stagg. Among other trips for each of us, these late June dates when we meet up at Camp are our favorites. Seasonal conditions are usually about as optimal as possible the last week of June. This trip proved to be no different except for the unusual local weather pattern that presented itself on day two. But hey, we take the good with the "other" and are blessed to enjoy this incredible fishery. Gary's report below describes our three days fishing with our friend, Captain Keith Kennedy who operates Born to Fish Charters out of Venice, LA.

Gary takes the prize for the Red with the most spots this trip.

Here's his report:

"Boy, was it hard to believe the marine forecast for the first day of our latest trip to Louisiana to fish with Captain Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters.  Waves of 0 to 1 foot, which is simply unheard of!  But, sure enough, that's precisely what met us when the Captain reached the spot he wanted to fish.  Within moments, everybody was hooked up to a big redfish all going in different directions!  For the next several hours, to have triple and quadruple hookups, all it took was having that many baits in the water.  When the dust settled---or rather, the water calmed from all the action---45 bull redfish to 28 pounds (Jeff Stagg) had come over the rail.

As always, with that kind of fishing on the first day, you just can't wait for the second day.  Then, as so often happens, what a difference a day made.  Trying his best to put us into fish early, the Captain made our way all the way down to the Head of the Passes on the River.  At that point, storms on both sides of us made it very clear that the prudent course of action was to return to camp, and that's precisely what we did.

Late morning we headed out again, but the second day's fishing was nothing like the first day.  We fished really hard for a total of two bull reds!

Then came the finale! On the third day, we returned to the original scene of the crime, and it was game on all over again!  Another storm caused us to seek shelter, but after it passed, the Captain made the right decision to return to where all the action had been, and sure enough, doubles and triples were on again!  We finished the last day with a total of 40 redfish, and David Fields nailed the big one of the trip at 34 pounds (pic attached). I managed a nice red with more spots on both sides than I have ever seen.

Another Giant Red from the area know as "Dead Womans Pass"

Before I reveal the best lures for this outing, let me just say that this latest trip exemplifies why it's so good to book Capt. Keith's 3 day, 4 night all-inclusive package. Booking only 1 or 2 days can be very hit or miss. With 3 days of fishing, it's usually for sure that at least one of those days the weather and the fish will cooperate.  It's not uncommon for 2 days to be good, and if you get all 3 to be good, you can consider yourself to be very fortunate.

Now for the lures.  As has been so often the case, the El Grande "Boom-R-Ang" saltwater fluke bait in Foxy Fred color was just exceptional. (See FYI below)  Bomber mudminnows in white with chartreuse tail also did their thing.  A new wrinkle developed by the Captain calls for two H & H queen cocahoe minnows to be arrayed on the same 8/0 circle hook, and this produced quite well.  Jeff Stagg upped the ante on this rig by replacing the minnows with two 6 inch twister tail grubs.  On the last day, all he had to do for an immediate hookup was to get this rig close to the water!  And I must mention that the Captain caught a very nice bull red, field testing his new lure creation, the Rag Tag.  No doubt you will be hearing big things to come of this innovation!

As always, I hope all our fishing buddies can enjoy this fantastic fishing with the Captain for about 1/5 the cost of our international travel!  Bass wishes, Gary Clark"

Redfish Action in the LA Delta

Redfish Action Heating Up in the LA Delta Region

As the Gulf Coast temperatures heat up around the Delta area so does the action for Bull Redfish. Fishing out of Venice, LA, avid Redfish angler Dr. Gary Clark and friends report excellent results for three days of fishing this past week. The three anglers landed 84 Bull Reds over three days fishing with the largest weighing in at 34 1/2 pounds. Clark reports most fish were taken with soft plastics fished under a popping cork with two specific baits. The El Grande Boom R Ang in Shrimp color and the Berkley Ripple Shad were the big ticket baits for the trip.

Services were provided by Captain Keith Kennedy, Born to Fish Charters. Captain Keith offers the total package including lodging, excellent meals, drinks, tackle, bait, boat and exceptional guide services.  If you want an all inclusive package with proven results contact Captain Keith at the number below. Limited openings are available for the remainder of this summer and fall season which is just Heating Up!

Fishing the Americas Friend Greg Thompson Organizes Special Amazon Adventure

Two veterans of the Peacock Bass Fraternity, friend Greg Thompson and his buddy Bobby Foster, return recently from an Amazon Fishing Adventure aboard the Santana with with a testimony better than any fish story.

[Photo credit Greg Thompson (center) and Kansas City Star]

"But most of all they talked about friendships."

“We coined a phrase, ‘Have a Bobby Foster Day.’ Bobby always has a great attitude. He’s always exactly where he wants to be, with who he wants to be with, and doing what he wants to do.
“This trip was about Bobby. This was Bobby’s time.”

Thompson organized a party of 11 of Foster’s friends for a trip back to the Amazon River Adventures business that had guided them in the past. Thompson had special shirts made, the staff threw parties in Foster’s honor, and the fishermen sat around and swapped fish stories of past trips.

Read the full story by Brent Frazee  in the Kansas City Star:

BTW…Peacockbass fishing wasn't to bad according to Greg Thompson…this PeacockBass veteran had two PeacockBass monsters over 20# and the big PeacockBass of the week was 23# caught by another veteran, Nelson Burnell.

Fishing the Americas Report: A TON of REDFISH!

A TON of REDFISH?

The fall feeding frenzy is on around the Mississippi Delta region and Captain Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters is on A TON of Redfish! 2013 has proven to be a great year for Captain Keith’s clients and their quest for the Ole' Channel Bass. It appears that the fall season will be no different. Friend Gary Clark and his Texas cousins just finished a three day fishing trip with Captain Keith and Gary is convinced that “well over one ton of Redfish made their way into the boat over the three day frenzy.”

Gary's full report follows:

Well, guys, it's always a pleasure to send you a report following one of my frequent trips to Venice, Louisiana to redfish with Capt. Keith Kennedy, but this one is truly exceptional.

Two of my favorite cousins, Joe and Lynn Payne, from Austin, Texas, and I have been trying to get together for a redfish trip for a couple of years now, and we finally got our three schedules to match up with one another.  I had been bragging on Keith and the terrific fishing he produces, but I thought perhaps I had gone a bit overboard when I saw the THREE ice chests that they had in the Suburban that they picked me up in at the New Orleans airport.  Not to worry!  Day one alone saw 71 bull reds come into the boat!

That was followed by 38 the second day and then an even 40 on the third day for a total of 149!  Put another way, given the large average size, well over one TON of redfish made their way into the boat over the three day frenzy!

As usual, popping corks and various plastics produced extremely well, but this time the reds also blasted big topwater Chug Bugs with a vengeance and nailed Rattletraps pumped up and down off the bottom.  Even the plastics under a cork were met with explosions like hand grenades going off!   Several nice trout and one big Jack Crevalle also found there way to the boat.

To top it all off,  we were blessed with near perfect wind and weather conditions for the whole trip.  Keith has experienced one of his best summers ever and it appears that it is going to continue for quite some time to come.  It would not surprise me at all to see the exceptional fishing continue well into December, so it's not too late to squeeze in one more fishing trip with him if you book soon.

Joe and Lynn were super impressed with Keith's gastronomic delights and his  attention to clients' wants and needs in every aspect of the trip.  Just like everyone else that I've introduced to the Captain, they are already making plans for a return trip.
Hope you do too.
All the best,
Gary

WOW! Now that’s a great report. But it’s not an unusual report. At least for this past season. My trip last June was outstanding. Certainly one of my top three. Mike James and the Alabama gang had a great trip in early May. Most anglers have reported similar results. There is just not a better destination available if you enjoy catching the Giants of the Bull Redfish.

Captain Keith can accommodate groups of 3 or 6. His packages are all inclusive with lodging, meals, guides, boats and even tackle provided. Give him a call today at (504) 908-3108 to set up your next fishing adventure to the beaches and bays of the Venice, LA Delta region for some world class light tackle fishing.

Call me anytime and I'll get you hooked up with the Captain. Maybe you too will encounter and report on A TON of REDFISH!

Golden Dorado of Salto Grande, Uruguay River

In Search of Gold... the Golden Dorado of the Uruguay River Exclusive Tail Waters

In October 2011 I finally had the fortunate opportunity to fish the Uruguay River Exclusive Tail Waters beneath the dam of Salto Grande reservoir located at the Argentina-Uruguay border. Over the last few years I had heard some pretty incredible stories about this destination and the fresh water dynamo - the Golden Dorado – that reside in this river. After having been there and immersed in the challenge, I can verify that these astonishing accounts about the monster Dorados of Salto Grande were not simply “fish stories” but were absolutely genuine.

I use the word dynamo here because it has in its meaning…hard-working and tirelessly energetic. That describes what the locals call “The River Tiger” quite well…with razor sharp teeth and bone hard jaws, this golden torpedo often engages in leaping aerial displays 4-7 times, or more, per hook up. No other destination in the world offers such Giants of the Golden Dorado like this Exclusive Tail Waters below the Salto Grande Dam. The fishery is rigorously restricted, controlled, managed and maintained. Government concessions are contracted to one outfitter on the Argentina side of the River and one outfitter on the Uruguay side.

Remember, these Salminus brasiliensis live in fast and highly turbulent waters. They are 10x strong because of it and they never let up after hook up. If you can manage to keep them “hooked up,” you’re in for a exhaustive tango with one of the hardest working and most tirelessly energetic freshwater game fish on the planet today! They will wear you out and take even the most “veteran” angler to the mat on more than several occasions. Until you become familiar with The River Tiger’s “game” you will find success rare in bringing the Golden Dynamo to the landing cradle.

Looking for the fishing adventure of a lifetime? This one sits right at the top. Think of it this way. In approximately one square mile over 20 world records of various classes have been taken for this species. It is estimated that in the last three seasons over 500 Dorado have been successfully landed over 40#.

We are pleased to be aligned with Luis Browns’ River Plate Dorado’s, outfitters for the Uruguay side. I can assure you that River Plate Dorado’s fits the bill in keeping with our motto…“sport fishing outfitters with a passion for excellence.”

Patrick Brown, the operations manager and host for River Plate Dorado’s, as well as the entire staff and support crew share this same passion for “exceeding the expected.”

Your accommodations, fine dining and amenities at the Hotel Horacio Quiroga Thermal Spa and Resort take this destination to the top of our list of exotic sport fishing destinations! Plan a fishin’ expedition someday soon in search of the “River Tiger” or the Golden Dorado of the Uruguay River.

Your fishing adventure of a lifetime is just a phone call away…call anytime!
